01 09 2025

Nigerian comedian and scriptwriter Ayoade Bamgboye scooped the Best Newcomer award at the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe Festival for her debut show, Swings and Roundabouts, making history as the first Black woman to receive the title, previously awarded to Tim Vine, Harry Hill and Sarah Millican.

Bamgboye returned to the UK aged 22, where she began her stand-up career performing at London venues including the Bill Murray, the Moth Club and Camden Comedy Club. She has since produced and starred in her own Channel 4 Playground show Rise and Shine with Channel 9 in 2024. The rising star is set to bring her acclaimed Fringe show to London in October 2025 for six performances at Soho Theatre.
